Course Description

The course will involve pupils undertaking different methods of running training to enable them to complete a 5k (3 mile) or a 10k (6 mile) run.  Each week, we will run a different offsite route (for example, in the grounds of Clitheroe Castle or along the river between Edisford and Grindleton).  Pupils who choose this course should already have a reasonable level of fitness and be prepared to run continuously each week.  They will also learn about nutrition and the effects of exercise on the body.  At the end of the course, pupils will complete a timed 5k or 10k race.  It should prove to be a very rewarding and enjoyable course

  • To improve cardiovascular endurance
  • To understand how the body responds to exercise and training
  • To be able to complete a 5k or 10k run.

Skills you will learn:

  • Pacing and breathing techniques.
  • Methods of running training (interval, continuous, fartlek).
  • Nutrition (pre and post training).

What you will need:

  • PE kit
  • Trainers
  • Water bottle
  • A high-visibility vest (provided by school).
