Course Description

There are three distinct areas to this enrichment course:

  1. Being part of a team which works on building Ribblesdales very own MTB skills course on an area next to our playing field. This will involve hard work and getting dirty!
  2. Learning skills which are essential in maintaining your own bike and keeping it safe.
  3. Using the skills area and other locations to develop your own riding skills.

The course is suitable for anyone who can ride a bike, you do not have to be an expert!


This workshop is subsidised, however there is a parental cost of £8 per workshop.

Aims of the course:

  1. To work as a team to construct a mountain bike skills course.
  2. To learn the basics of bike maintenance.
  3. To develop mountain bike riding skills .

Skills you will learn:

  1. Understand how to use basic tools to construct a skills area for mountain biking.
  2. To learn the basic skills of bike maintenance (puncture repair, brake adjustment and gear adjustment etc).
  3. To develop riding skills on a personalised basis using the skills course and other locations for MTB riding.

What you will need:

Clothing suitable for riding and outdoor work will be essential.

Dependent upon the time of year and weather conditions, there may be some offsite riding.

On some occasions pupils with their own bikes will be encouraged to bring them to school.
